Glutathione intravenous injections have a vital role in supporting the detoxification of cells and stimulating the antioxidant systems of the body. It has been studied in trials for the treatment of liver poisoning and chronic liver conditions with positive outcomes. In addition to this, glutathione has been studied to help reverse non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is when fat molecules infiltrate the liver organ and it is not a result of excessive or chronic alcohol abuse. A common risk factor for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is diabetes.
The use of Glutathione for about 3 months was shown to reduce alanine aminotransferase (ALT) enzyme levels in the blood. ALT is an enzyme that estimates liver health and function, and when it is elevated it is a sign of a diseased liver. The use of glutathione significantly reduce the ALT levels in patients that received the treatment.
But that was not all! There was also a significant decrease in the levels of triglycerides in the blood, a type of fat molecule which when elevated increases the risk of heart disease.
Considering the significantly high safety profile of a compound like Glutathione, and the significant therapeutic role it has in reversing liver disease, it should be strongly considered in the treatment of liver conditions it has been shown to improve.
